In a press release, UATP president and CEO Ralph Kaiser expressed excitement for the ground-breaking travel partnership, showing immense support for Bitnet.
“We are very happy to be partnering with Bitnet to add bitcoin to our payment platform. We are always looking for skilled partners to bring additional forms of payment to the UATP processing platform and Bitnet fits the bill well.”

Op-Ed | Bitcoin is Good Money

By NICK TOMAINO

If you acknowledge that money is simply a language to communicate value, you quickly realise that bitcoin stacks up well, argues Nick Tomaino.

SAN FRANCISCO, United States — Money is generally misunderstood, which contributes to the confusion about bitcoin as a digital currency. If you acknowledge that money is simply a language to communicate value and you evaluate bitcoin objectively on the six important characteristics of money that are taught in a basic economics course, you quickly realise that bitcoin stacks up well against any form of money that has ever existed.

4 Lessons to Learn From Ross Ulbricht's Trial (Op-Ed)

By Amanda B. Johnson

Silk Road
Ross Ulbricht – the man who 12 strangers recently deemed to be rightful property of the state – is set to spend the rest of his otherwise productive life in a cage. But if you're interested in the future of cryptocurrency, whether or not Ross really ran the successful Silk Road website is beside the point.

Whatever you think about the victimless act of buying or selling “illicit” plants, consider the following:
1. Cryptocurrencies will do best where states are poor. Imagine for a moment how much the Ulbricht and Silk Road persecution cost the state in America.
Imagine how many state employees like Jared Deryeghiayan collected fat salaries – for years – to infiltrate the site's administrative operations. To track down and seize the servers on the other side of the world.
Imagine the manpower, computer power, caging facilities and weaponry used to carry out the capture and year-long caging of Ulbricht. Imagine the cost of the jail guards, state-employed hackers, judges, lawyers, prosecutors, police, and paper pushers. The “press” releases. The “evidence” collection and archival.

NYC Wants Drivers to Pay For Parking Tickets Via Apple Pay, Mobile Apps and Bitcoin

By GEOFF WEISS

New York City is weighing new legislation that would enable drivers to instantaneously pay for parking tickets via Apple Pay, mobile apps and even Bitcoin.
The city collects roughly $600 million from 10 million parking tickets annually, according to MarketWatch. However, the current payment system is rather outdated: offenders can only pay online, through the mail or in person at the courthouse. And if they don’t pay on time, late fees begin to accrue. This, along with a 2.5 percent credit and debit card fee, could change with the use of mobile apps and cryptocurrencies.

Is Bitcoin a Ponzi Scheme?

A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from their own money, or the money paid by subsequent investors, instead of from profit earned by the individuals running the business. Ponzi schemes are designed to collapse at the expense of the last investors when there is not enough new participants.

Bitcoin is a free software project with no central authority. Consequently, no one is in a position to make fraudulent representations about investment returns. Like other major currencies such as gold, United States dollar, euro, yen, etc. there is no guaranteed purchasing power and the exchange rate floats freely. This leads to volatility where owners of bitcoins can unpredictably make or lose money. Beyond speculation, Bitcoin is also a payment system with useful and competitive attributes that are being used by thousands of users and businesses.

‘Every Time You Use Bitcoin, You Undermine Violence’ — Roger Ver on War Funding

War Funding

Roger Ver, Bitcoin multimillionaire and peace advocate, is no stranger to violence.
He called out the state organization of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms (ATF) for being murderers (à la Waco), and then he found himself the target of ATF-backed persecution. He spent ten months in a cage in California. Ver moved to Japan the day his parole ended and has lived there ever since.
Ver is a well-known donor and angel investor, and he’s currently offering to match up to US$20,000 in donated bitcoins to Antiwar.com. CoinTelegraph saw this as the perfect occasion to ask him more about his beliefs on Bitcoin and peace.
